As I plan my 1st tractor purchase, I have a question about a mid-mount finishing mower. Even though I thought I'd get a rear-mount mower initially, I'm now thinking I want a mid-mount to make the tractor more maneuverable around tight spots. Does a mid-mount finishing mower interfere with use of other implements..... or vice versa? Is it typical or acceptable to have other implements such as a FEL and/or rear blade on the tractor at the same time? I was assuming the the mid-mount mower would stay on the tractor for the most part...unless there was a need for extra ground clearance.

I often use other implements with the mid-mount mower attached. Especially since I bought a mower lift latch kit (it can lock the mower in the raised position while the 3 point can be used to raise or lower an implement). The only problem is what you mentioned -sometimes I have ground clearance problems with the mower attached and then I will remove the mowing deck. ....

At this point most all of the mowers use the three point hitch to reaise and lower the deck. The lock as mentioned in a previous post is one way to keep the deck up when using the three point. Some manufactuers use a extra valve to do raise and lower the deck leaving the three point hitch free to do as desired. ....

GGMAN, your concern was one of my major considerations when I bought my compact last spring. I wanted a belly mower that was compatible with attachments on both the front and rear of the tractor as much as possible. Although I loved both the Kubotas and NH Boomers, I bought a JD4400 because the JD4x00 series has the best attachment ease and compatibility, hands down, no contest. (I'm not color-blind though: I still believe that Kubota has the best initial quality and that NH has the best ergonomics engineering.) By attachment ease I'm primarily referring to the loader, backhoe, and belly mower in that order. The JD is the only compact where I can have the loader, belly mower, and frame-mounted backhoe all mounted and operational at the same time. Why would I ever want that, you ask? I mean, backhoe and belly mower? Because during the summer when I'm mowing, preferably without loader and backhoe, I occasionally run across a nuisance rock that has grown in height over the winter (deep-freezes up here in the Adirondacks). I can throw both the loader and backhoe on the 4400 WITHOUT removing the mower in about 10-15 minutes, go and dig out the nuisance (which turns out to be the size of large-screen TV), and then remove loader and backhoe again without ever touching the mower. This scenario happens quite frequently and I enjoy spending an hour defeating a boulder at the time it is annoying me the most. The mower lift on the 4400 can be off a separate cylinder controlled by a 3rd SCV, so the 3-point hitch is freed up also. However, I do think that the NH has the best 3-point hitch design in this class for ease. ....

Does anyone out there have the phone# or E-mail adress of the TAYLOR-PITTSBURGH company? I have a Massey 1250 with a 1231 72" mid-mount deck that I understand is made for Massey by Taylor Pittsburgh. I have a issue with the lift links that came with this deck. The owners manual shows different links for the 72" deck than the 60" but the Massey dealers parts screens dont diferentiate. There is also an issue with the upstop-lock when this deck is used with the larger size R4 tires available with this tractor. Any help would be appreciated. ....

I also have a 1250. I don't have a belly mower though. Any time that I have a strange parts question my parts manager will call Massey tech. support. Sometimes it will take a day or two for an answer from them. They are usually pretty good. The 1246 loader and the 1217 backhoe are made by Sioux Tractor Company. But I don't know who makes the belly mower. Your dealer should be able to tell you.
